The chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area have kicked against the naming of Techiman as the capital of the newly-created Bono East Region.

According to the chiefs, Nkoranza has a lot of advantages including its central location and close proximity to almost all towns in the new region than Techiman.

They suspect Techiman is being favoured because it is the hometown of the Deputy Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah.

With barely 24 hours for the new regions to be given legal backing with the presentation of Constitutional Instruments, the chiefs told journalists at a press briefing earlier on Monday, 11 February 2019 that the government sidelined Nkoranza from a meeting with the traditional leaders and District Chief Executives at Techiman on Thursday.

The chief of Buaben, Nana Owusu Damoah Ameyaw III, who addressed the press conference on behalf of the Nkoranza Traditional Council, said they perceive a well-orchestrated plan to sideline Nkoranza in the naming of a regional capital.

However, Adjei Mensah Korsah has described the claims as absolute falsehoods and denied any sidelining of Nkoranza from any meetings. He also denied claims that Techiman is being favoured because it is his hometown.
