The Narcotics Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has arrested nine suspected drug dealers in Lamashegu, a community in the Tamale metropolis.

The suspects were arrested with some dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp during an anti-drug operation.

The PRO for the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko said the operation was undertaken on Monday, 26 March 2019 at about 6:00 p.m. in some parts of the regional capital.

He disclosed that the narcotics unit was set up last year to clamp down on drug peddlers and users in the region.

He assured the public that the police is committed to ending the drug menace in the region.

DSP Tanko said the exercise will continue till they are certain that all those engaged in such illegal activities are arrested and prosecuted.

The suspects, he said, will undergo screening and arraigned in the coming days, adding that they will be charged in line with the narcotics laws.
