Deputy Black Stars Captain, Andre Ayew, has said Ghana must clinch a fifth Afcon trophy this year after coming close to achieving that feat in the 2010 and 2015 continental tournament.

Ghana, who won the Afcon in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 have for the past 37 years failed to add a fifth.

However, the son of Ghanaian legend Abedi Ayew Pele is hopeful that the fortunes of the team will change as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

"There were times we deserved to win the trophy. If we won it in 2010 and 2015, we wouldn’t have stolen it. But its football and we can’t say what will happen. What we can say is we have the squad. We have the players and staff to go to the end of the tournament,” the Fenerbahce star remarked.

Ghana, host nation Egypt, Senegal, The Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Tunisia have been placed in pot one ahead of the final draw on 12 April 2009 in Cairo.
