This is the bizarre images showing two unborn twins appearing to hurl punches at each other inside their mother's womb.

The photos and ultrasound clip show the girls lie face to face and then suddenly seem to hit each other.

But the twins were born healthy, around four months later, at a hospital in Yinchuan, China.

The parents, who have nicknamed the twin girls Cherry and Strawberry, welcomed their new arrivals last week without further surprises.

Tao, the dad, said: "When we saw this video, it was a big surprise to us."

He laughed at the rare moment with the nurse when it was caught on the ultrasound in December.

But the director of the prenatal centre in Yinchuan said: "It can be dangerous because it is like the twins are growing in the same 'room' when normally twins develop in two 'rooms'.

"It happens once in every 30 million cases."

The slightly older sister weighed 4.3 lb while the youngest twin, born one minute later, weighed 3.57 lb.

Local reports say the girls were premature but this is unconfirmed.

The parents say the sisters are healthy.
