The flag bearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, on Thursday, 18 April 2019, announced that he will abolish the luxury vehicle tax introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government if he wins the 2020 general elections.

The tax affects all vehicles with engine capacities above 2.9 litres.

Speaking to executives and drivers of the Neoplan station branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Accra during his pre-Easter Walkabout at some bus terminals, Mr Mahama argued that the new tax is not generating much revenue as projected by the government, wondered why it is still in existence.

At the Kaneshie terminal, Mr Mahama promised the local GPRTU executives that his next government will construct a modern bus terminal at Kaneshie.
