Ghanaian athlete, Grace Obuor, on Monday, 22 April 2019, had her bronze medal taken away by the organisers of the Confederation of African Athletics after it was discovered that she ran in the wrong age category.

Ms Obuor won bronze in the Women’s 400 metre race in the under 18 category with a time of 52.59 seconds at the Confederation of African Athletics Under 18, Under 20 Athletics Championship, which was held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Her medal followed team Ghana’s Rose Amoanima Yeboah’s gold in the Women’s Under 20 high jump.

It was, however, discovered hours after the event that Ms Obuor was not eligible to run in the race and should have competed in the Under 20 race instead, leading to the withdrawal of her medal.
