The police command in the Ashanti Region has arrested 'Akon', a member of the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) militia group, The Hawks, in connection with the shooting and murder of one person at the regional office of the party on Monday, 18 February 2019.

The PRO of the regional police command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo told the media at a press briefing on Friday, 26 April 2019 that Akon was apprehended by some community members at Abrem and sent to the Kenyasi police station.

ASP Ahianyo said the suspect was later transferred to the regional police headquarters.

"When he came, he was injured, so, the commander advised that he should be taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment and as we speak, he is there receiving medical treatment", he said.

ASP Ahianyo added that after the suspect is discharged, he will be brought back to the regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for the investigation to continue.

The shooting killed one Abdul Wasui Iddrisu.
