The Deputy Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr William Sebi, has apologised to Ghanaians for the challenges that have bedevilled the ongoing Ghana Card registration exercise being undertaken by the National Identification Authority (NIA).

According to him, some of the problems that have characterised the exercise were beyond the control of NIA officials, hence the mishaps.

Mr Sebi told Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 2 May 2019 that the delay at some of the registration centres was as a result of equipment breakdown, poor internet service and a few others.

These, he said, were beyond the control of the officials. He nonetheless apologised to the public for the mishaps and gave the assurance that the challenges would be dealt with to ensure a smooth exercise.

“There is no such exercise that does not have some of these challenges. This is a human institution and machines and equipment are being used, these gadgets can develop faults.

“Some of the challenges are beyond our control, we cannot do anything about them, but whatever is within our power, we will try and do it to ensure that every Ghanaian obtains the card.

“Latest by the first quarter of next year, every Ghanaian will obtain a Ghana card. We appeal to all Ghanaians to be patient with the officials when they go through the registration. We are sorry for the problems,” he said.
