Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has donated food items to the North Tongu Zongo community.

The donation which was made on Wednesday, 8 May 2019 is geared towards supporting the Zongo community during the 30-day Ramadan fast which began on Monday, 6 May.

Speaking to journalists after presenting the items, Mr Ablakwa said it has been a tradition since his assumption of office as MP for the area to support the Muslim community.

He said: “It’s been a tradition since I became MP to support our Muslim brothers every year before the fasting period to break their fast.

“We’re enjoying peace in the North Tongu constituency, and we would like that peace to prevail as well as our mutual coexistence as Christians, Muslims and all the other various ethnic groups and other foreign nationals who make up the North Tongu Constituency. Even though I’m a Christian, I respect them, I cherish their contributions and we’re all one people. I’m an MP representing not only a section of the community but the entire community and that’s the rationale behind today’s donation”.

The items included bags of rice, cartons of milk, cartons of lipton and sugar among others.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Zongo community, the chief Imam for the area, Mallam Idrissu expressed appreciation on behalf of the community.

He said: "We thank Honourable Ablakwa on behalf of the community and pray the almighty Allah's blessings upon him."

The donation which is an annual event was attended by NDC constituency executives and Muslim elders of the Zongo community.
