The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has directed civil servants at the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region to start wearing red armbands ahead of a series of protests to register their displeasure over the government’s interference in their affairs.

Class News' Mercy Obeng Akrofi, who was present at an emergency meeting of CLOGSAG members in Accra today, Friday, 17 May 2019 reported that they also announced they will be embarking on a series of demonstrations from 28 May to 31 May 2019 in protest against what they described as political interference in their affairs.

CLOGSAG is accusing the government of usurping the authority of civil servants as well as dismissing and replacing its members with political appointees.

Last month, CLOGSAG fought the appointment of a Deputy Chief Labour Officer, Mr Francis Ofori Kwansah as acting Chief Labour Officer at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

The Chief Labour Officer at the Ministry, Mr Eugene Narh Korletey sued sector Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah for wrongful reassignment.

According to Mr Korletey, the minister had singled him out for abuse and victimisation despite diligently discharging his duties as the head of the Labour Department at the ministry since 2013.

Mr Korletey, in his application for a judicial review filed at the Accra High Court, also prayed the court to order the minister not to interfere in the work of the labour department.
