The Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) has called for the renovation of the Kumasi Children's Park at Aful Nkwanta in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

GAW said the facility houses a library, adding that rehabilitation of the park will boost reading among children in the metropolis.

The association expressed worry that the park is no longer serving its purpose and has now become a den for criminals, though it was earmarked as a safe haven for children for learning.

Mr Bernard Buachi, the Ashanti Regional President of the association, wants the authorities to get rid of the criminals immediately and commit resources to the development of the place.

He noted that there are inadequate learning spaces for children in the metropolis while the park, earmarked for children, has been left to deteriorate.

He made the comments when members of the association went to Remar Children's Home at Patase in the Kumasi Metropolis to socialise with the orphans.

GAW also organised a reading clinic for the children and donated books and stationeries as well as products for refreshment to the children's home.

Mr Buachi further pledged the support of the association to volunteer their services to any child on learning or literacy endeavours targeted at children
