First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has applauded the Methodist Girls’ High School team at Mamfe Akuapem in the Eastern Region for winning the 2019 World ROBOFEST Competition held in Michigan in the United States of America.

Mrs Akufo-Addo said she is “thrilled” that the girls won the competition.

“I am absolutely thrilled to know that an all-girls team from Ghana won the World Robofest Championship in the United States. They edged out top teams like the USA, South Korea and Mexico. Thank you lovely ladies for making Ghana proud,” Mrs Akufo-Addo posted on Facebook.

The task given at the 20th edition of the robotic events comprised building a robot to arrange boxes according to a Binary Number Given. This Binary Number is unveiled when all robots are impounded.

MEGHIS triumphed in the preliminary contests held in Ghana by beating all the top senior high schools.

The annual competition in Ghana, under the code name ‘Robotics Inspired Science Education’ (RISE), is organised by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation founded by Dr Ashitey Trebi-Olenu.

Some of the participating countries were Japan, China, Korea, South Africa, United States of America, and Mexico.
