The Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals (GFAHP) on Friday, 24 May 2019 called off their indefinite sit-down strike.

The industrial action ended following a meeting with the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Chief Director on Thursday, (23 May 2019) night at the Ministry of Health.

GFAHP declared an indefinite strike on Monday, 20 May 2019.

The group said the strike had become necessary following the government’s failure to resolve its members’ grievances which have pended for two years.

The health professionals, in a statement, wondered why the governing board of the Allied Health Professions Council has “not been inaugurated after 29 months of its dissolution, especially in the light of the fact that all other health sector regulatory bodies have had their boards.”

They also said, “Nothing has been done with regard to the non-inclusion of the Allied Health Professionals in the proposed amendments to the Governing Boards of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospital Act, 1996 (Act 525).”
