President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reminded the 517,332 candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) that Free SHS awaits them once they pass their papers.

The Free SHS policy is a government of Ghana initiative introduced by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration in September 2017.

It was a major campaign policy in the lead-up to the 2016 general elections.

The government pays for tuition, admission, and textbooks, as well as shoulders the following bills: library fees, science centre fees, fees for ICT, examination fees, utility fees, boarding fees and meals.

In a tweet to wish the candidates well, Nana Akufo-Addo prayed for the pupils, saying: “God be with you”.

Over Five hundred thousand pupils from 16,871 schools are sitting.

Out of the 517,332 candidates, 263,616 are males and 153,716 are females.

Meanwhile, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has banned the use of cellular devices by the supervisors during the examination.
