The management of the Bui Power Authority (BPA) has distributed items worth millions of Ghana cedis to children living in the resettled communities of Bui following the construction of the Bui dam some eleven years ago.

Children from 108 households which were relocated received education and learning materials, as well as toys as part of efforts to foster good relations with the communities.

The adults in the resettled households received their compensation in the past, so, BPA targeted the children in its recent move as part of its corporate social responsibility. The two communities which benefitted from the gesture were Jama and Resettlement Part B towns.

Speaking to Class News during the gift distribution exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of BPA, Mr Fred Oware, said the gesture falls in line with the Authority’s mandate to respond to the needs of the communities to promote good neighbourliness.

“We believe that we have a commitment to them and to make sure that we incubate their needs and respond to them in terms of schooling and work,” Mr Oware said.

He revealed that the Authority has been able “to establish microbusinesses for some of the residents engaged in gardening, fishing and fumigation, among others”.

“We have bought them the necessary equipment and they provide services to the Authority and we pay them as we would have paid any external contract”.

For his part, the chief of Jama New Town, Togbe Togbaja Atsu, expressed gratitude to the Authority and said the donation would impact them positively.
