President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has prayed for an a trouble-free and an incident-free Eid celebration as Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul Adha.

Muslims around the world celebrated Eid on Sunday, 11 August 2019 but because the day was a weekend, in Ghana, today, Monday, 12 August is been observed as a statutory public holiday.

At occasions like this, merry makers regardless of their religious affiliation storm beaches and other exciting places to have fun and make merry.

In a message to wish Muslims well, Nana Akufo-Addo advised the citizenry to make merry in moderation.

He further encouraged Muslims that just as “Eid-ul Adha is an occasion for us to remember the sacrifices Prophet Ibrahim made in obedience to the will of God. Islam means peace and submission to the will of God. Islam should, thus, inculcate in us a sense of sacrifice - that puts others and our nation first.”

Below is the full message:

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I wish all Muslims a Happy Eid-ul Adha celebration.
“Eid-ul Adha is an occasion for us to remember the sacrifices Prophet Ibrahim made in obedience to the will of God. Islam means peace and submission to the will of God.
“Islam should, thus, inculcate in us a sense of sacrifice- that puts others and our nation first.
“That is the meaning of Eid-Ul Adha.
“We have a right to make merry and celebrate.
“But let us celebrate and make merry in moderation.
“I pray for a trouble-free and accident-free Eid celebration.
“May the Almighty Allah bless us all, and make our nation great and strong. Asalamu Alaikum!”
