Air Senegal has resumed flights to Ghana by introducing direct flights between Accra and Dakar.

The airline is expected to fly to Ghana four times in a week – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Speaking at the arrival ceremony on Monday, 16 December 2019, Ghana's Minister of Aviation, Mr Kofi Adda, said the move will improve connectivity on the African continent, which will subsequently feed into Ghana’s quest to having a home-based carrier.

“The airline industry went down in Africa but there has been a resurgence in the past two or so years. Air Senegal was flying to Ghana one-off; I think two or three years. They are coming back again; it’s a signal that they are active,” Mr Adda said.

He noted: “Ghana Airways has been down, Ghana Airlines off; we have gotten to a stage where we are now waiting for Cabinet approval. Once that is done, I think we can also boast of being ready to fly to Dakar or any part of Africa or the world. It is important for Africa, it is important for Ghana, it’s good to have a sister Africa country flying in this morning.”

Mr Adda added that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Aviation Ministry to improve air connectivity to Africa, emphasising that it is playing a significant part in growing this agenda.

There are a number of African airlines operating in the country. They include Air Maroc, Egypt Air and Kenya Airways.
