The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has announced a significant milestone of achieving an annual electricity generation record of 1.547 gigawatt-hours, marking the highest output since the commencement of commercial generation.

This achievement was unveiled in the authority's 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) report, presented during the 2023 AGM to highlight the noteworthy accomplishments of the previous year. According to the report, this record-breaking performance was attributed to the company's commitment to strict maintenance schedules for all generating units and their successful completion.

The maintenance process included a comprehensive approach, covering unit 1 and the Turbinette.

'' It involved dismantling, inspections, repairs, re-assembly, and final commissioning in alignment with industry standards'' the reports said.

The start-up test and trial run results demonstrated compliance with as-built records''.

The report emphasized that the rigorous maintenance procedures not only contributed to record electricity generation but also facilitated knowledge transfer and enhanced staff expertise in the technical aspects of the plant.

In addition to the operational success, the report highlighted significant financial growth for the authority in 2022.

The BPA generated 1.547 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and experienced a notable 44 percent increase in revenue, reaching $158,802,301.

This was compared to the previous year's revenue of $110,290,403, with electricity generation at 1.156 GWh.

The surge in revenue was attributed to favourable inflows into the Bui Reservoir, increased power demand, and effective cost control measures implemented by the management.

The report further revealed a notable profit after tax of $79,218,134 for the year, marking a remarkable 97 percent increase from the $40,220,491 recorded in 2021.

Notably, BPA's net worth also witnessed a substantial rise, indicating a 15 percent increase to $620,107,912 in 2022 from $540,889,778 in 2021.

This financial growth positions the Bui Power Authority as a key player in Ghana's energy sector and reinforces its commitment to excellence in electricity generation and management.
