DVLA partners SIC Insurance to introduce insurance cover for DP car plates
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has partnered with SIC Insurance PLC to roll out a new insurance scheme for vehicles with DP (Drive from Port) as part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety and regulatory compliance.
The announcement was made by DVLA Chief Executive, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, following a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng, on Friday.
The meeting was a reciprocal gesture after Mr. Agyenim-Boateng’s earlier visit to the DVLA Head Office.
According to Mr. Kotey, the partnership will see the introduction of a premium, claimable third-party insurance package linked directly to the digitised DP sticker issued by the DVLA.
This innovation aims to ensure that vehicles using DP plates comply with Legislative Instrument 2183—Motor Vehicles Third Party Insurance Regulations, 2016—while providing enhanced protection for third parties in the event of accidents.
“We are excited about this collaboration with SIC Insurance PLC, which reflects our commitment to improving accountability on the roads and ensuring compliance with existing insurance laws,” Mr. Kotey said.
The initiative is expected to improve insurance coverage for vehicles in transit, often used for testing, demonstration, or delivery purposes by dealers, while bolstering efforts to enforce road safety standards across the country.
