Dangote Cement Ghana begins sustainability week celebration
Dangote Cement Ghana Limited has commenced its sustainability week celebration.
The celebration, launched on Wednesday, 2 October 2019 at its plant in Tema, is under the theme: 'Our Communities, Our Passion.'
Activities lined up for the celebration include a health talk on depression and stress, dental and eye screening, donation of cement, cleanup exercise and school visit.
The sustainability week is an annual celebration across the Dangote Group worldwide.
Speaking at the launch of the celebration, the Managing Director (MD) of Dangote Cement Ghana Limited, Mr Brice Houeto, stated that the sustainability week is about doing business in a sustainable manner and impacting societies positively beyond just selling cement.
"Dangote is certainly not here for a week, one day or one year, we want to do our business in a sustainable way and beyond that we want to impact our communities positively, give back to our communities beyond just selling cement," he said, as he addressed the staff.
This year is about employees doing more volunteerism in communities.
"The whole idea of sustainability week is not just about Dangote Ghana, it's about Dangote worldwide," he added.
He emphasised the need to give back to communities, as well as protect the environment and human lives.
According to the MD, Dangote intends to be the biggest and leading cement producer in Africa.
Beyond that, he said the group also wants to bring to its communities, innovation and smart ways of doing business.
The Human Resource Manager of Dangote Cement Ghana, Akature Ania, asked the staff to participate fully in the sustainability programme and be more safety-conscious.
