The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has firmly denied reports suggesting a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) fuel in Ghana, assuring the public and airline operators that there is sufficient supply to support all flight operations.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry clarified that recent concerns may have stemmed from scheduled maintenance works on the ATK jetty pipeline—an essential infrastructure upgrade that was long overdue.

"The maintenance was necessary to safeguard the integrity of the jetty and protect Ghana’s fuel security," the statement noted.

To bolster fuel reserves and maintain a stable supply chain, the country recently received an ATK shipment of 11,984 metric tons.

Of this amount, 4,583 metric tons have already been successfully offloaded at the Petroleum Warehousing and Storage Limited (PWSL) facilities over the past two days.

The remaining fuel is currently being discharged to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge depots through the TOR Jetty, with the full process expected to conclude by midday on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has since met with key stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector as well as the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited to reinforce the government’s commitment to uninterrupted aviation fuel supply.

“We want to reassure all stakeholders that there is no cause for alarm,” the Ministry stated.

“We urge the public to disregard any false reports of ATK shortages in the country.”
