Players in the downstream petroleum sector are calling on the newly-appointed CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, to ensure sanity is maintained in the sector.

They believe the lingering challenges in the sector can only be addressed by a vibrant leader.

This comes on the back of the appointment of Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid as the CEO of the Authority.

He is to, among others, regulate, oversee and monitor the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana for efficiency, growth and stakeholder satisfaction.

Reacting to the President's new appointment, the Chairman of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies, Mr Henry Akwaboah, urged Dr Abdul-Hamid to, among other things, ensure the prices of petroleum products are reduced.

Mr Akwaboah told Class Business’ Pious Kojo Backah that the long-overdue appointment is very important, especially at this time.

He expressed the hope that the new CEO will address the challenges in the sector and sanitise it, too.

Dr Abdul-Hamid takes office on 1 July 2021.
