YILPORT Holdings and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) have held high-level strategic discussions aimed at repositioning the Port of Takoradi for improved operational efficiency and long-term growth.

The meeting brought together senior leadership from both institutions, including Chairman of YILPORT Holdings and ATSL terminal operator, Mr. Robert Yüksel Yildirim, as well as GPHA Board Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Director-General, Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the two entities to modernise port infrastructure and enhance Takoradi Port’s competitiveness within Ghana’s maritime and logistics sector.

Key issues discussed included a phased development plan for the port, the expansion of the Western Corridor rail network, and the establishment of a proposed inland logistics terminal at Boankra.

These initiatives are expected to improve cargo movement, reduce congestion, and create a more efficient connection between the port and inland markets.

Officials noted that improving rail connectivity and developing inland logistics hubs would ease pressure on road transport while accelerating the movement of goods across the country and to neighbouring landlocked states.

The talks form part of broader efforts to transform the Port of Takoradi into a key trade gateway to support industrial growth and regional commerce, particularly within Ghana’s western corridor.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation to ensure the port remains competitive and capable of meeting growing trade demands in the years ahead.
