The management of Ghana Textiles Printing Company Limited (GTP), at a meeting with the workers' council, has requested that the staff go on a two-week leave (10 working days) in the first two weeks of September 2022.

This situation has become necessary due to two main challenges the company is facing: Difficulty in selling, which has led to high unsold volumes in the depots; and serious shortages of RFO on the market thereby forcing management to power the boilers with diesel instead of RFO and increasing our energy costs by about four times.

The two factors have led to a precarious financial situation for the company, which, by extension, seems to threaten the company's ability to pay salaries going forward.

The management has, thus, as part of its remedial measures to curtail any further precarious financial situation, asked the workers to take leave days while it waits for improvements in sales and the RFO situation.

The company, in a notice to the staff, said any further changes that may arise will be duly communicated.

The President of the Tema Chamber of Commerce, Mr Michael Kabutey Caesar, had, on Thursday, 1 September 2022, told Accra100.FM that the decision had affected 600 staff, who, he claimed, had been laid off.

The company, however, denies that any of its workers has been laid off.
