Goldbod does not purchase gold from illegal biners — Beatrice Annan clarifies

Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Annan, has dismissed claims suggesting that Goldbod, a gold trading company, buys gold from illegal miners, popularly known as galamsey operators.
Speaking on the Citizens' Show with Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Ms. Annan stressed that Goldbod operates strictly within Ghana’s mining laws and adheres to all regulatory standards.
“Goldbod does not engage in the purchase of gold from illegal miners.
The company operates within the legal framework and is deeply committed to promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices,” she stated.
Her clarification comes amid growing public concern over the role of gold trading firms in fueling illegal mining activities, which continue to threaten Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
Ms. Annan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with licensed mining companies to ensure transparency and accountability in the mineral value chain, while intensifying efforts to clamp down on illicit mining operations across the country
