Gov’t to roll out major VAT reforms in 2026 – Ato Forson
Minister for Finance, Dr. Casiel Ato Forson, has announced a series of reforms aimed at modernising Ghana’s tax administration and boosting revenue mobilisation.
He disclosed the plans during an engagement with staff of the Large Taxpayer Office at the VAT House on Tuesday, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to removing bottlenecks hindering efficient revenue collection.
According to the Minister, the reforms, expected to take effect next year, will include the rollout of a redesigned Value Added Tax (VAT) system, the introduction of fiscal electronic devices to improve compliance and transparency, and the launch of a national VAT Reward Scheme to incentivise taxpayers.
Dr. Ato Forson said the initiatives form part of the government’s broader drive to “reset” the economy by strengthening revenue systems to support growth, job creation and economic transformation.
He expressed confidence that the measures will create a modern and fair tax regime capable of supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
