K.T Hammond to present Export and Import Regulations 2023 to Parliament today

The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T Hammond, is scheduled to present the Export and Import Regulations 2023 to Parliament today, Thursday, 30 November 2023.
The legislative instrument (LI) aims to impose restrictions on the importation of 22 selected strategic products, including sugar, rice, poultry, and tripe.
On Tuesday, 28 November 2023, Parliament deferred the laying of the policy document for the third time, providing an opportunity for the Sector Minister to engage with the Minority caucus regarding amendments made to the legislative instrument.
This delay was seen as a measure to address concerns and garner support for the proposed regulations.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has urged Parliament to back the laying of the LI, emphasising its importance in supporting the government's efforts to control the country's import drive.
The proposed restrictions aim to manage and regulate the importation of specific goods, contributing to economic stability and domestic production.
