The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), has urged the management of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) to take the lead in fully modernising the company as part of the government’s broader plan to establish a competitive and integrated aluminium industry driven by value addition.

The Minister made the call during a working visit to VALCO on Tuesday, October 28, 2024, where he engaged with management and staff on the company’s strategic direction.

Mr. Buah commended the current management team for its renewed energy, focus, and commitment to repositioning the company for long-term growth.

He expressed optimism that with continued innovation and decisive leadership, VALCO could reclaim its position as a key pillar of Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda.

“VALCO remains central to our national vision of building a fully integrated aluminium value chain — from bauxite mining through alumina refining to smelting and fabrication,” the Minister stated.

“The modernisation of VALCO is therefore not just a company project, but a national imperative.”

He emphasised that the government’s goal is to ensure that Ghana derives maximum benefit from its natural resources through value addition, job creation, and industrial diversification, rather than the export of raw materials.

Mr. Buah reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting VALCO’s modernisation efforts through sound policy direction, stakeholder collaboration, and targeted investment partnerships.

He concluded by encouraging the management and staff to remain innovative, disciplined, and focused as the company embarks on this new phase of transformation.

“With the right leadership and modernisation drive, VALCO can once again stand as a symbol of Ghana’s industrial strength and economic resilience,” he added.
