NLA, KGL aligned on renegotiation to boost state revenue — Razak Kojo Opoku
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) and KGL Technology Limited have reaffirmed their shared commitment to renegotiating their existing agreement in a move aimed at increasing revenue for the state.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, the renegotiation process has been ongoing since January 2025, under the directive of the Mahama-led administration, with both parties aligned on the objective of ensuring greater financial returns for Ghana.
Dr. Opoku emphasised that the renegotiation is not intended to terminate or cancel the current license agreement but rather to enhance its value and efficiency.
“Renegotiation has nothing to do with termination or abrogation of the license agreement of KGL,” he clarified.https://youtu.be/RZiwsDpvxVQ
He noted that since 2019, KGL’s payments to the NLA have increased progressively through periodic renegotiations, reflecting the company’s business expansion and the strengthening of its partnership with the Authority.
“Without doubt, KGL payments to NLA will continue to increase from 2026 and beyond to more benefit the State and NLA,” he stated.
Dr. Opoku stressed that the critical issue moving forward is how the NLA will prudently utilise funds received from KGL to serve the interests of the State and the public.
He further pointed out that the Director-General of the NLA’s recent comments before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament confirmed that the NLA–KGL partnership remains one of the most beneficial arrangements for the State.
“The Director-General’s position has clearly confirmed that the NLA–KGL deal is the best and has the potential to benefit the State more, even after renegotiation,” Dr. Opoku added.
He concluded by asserting that recent calls by The Fourth Estate and Sulemana Braimah for the termination or abrogation of the deal have been “completely defeated” by the Director-General’s testimony at PAC, which reaffirmed the strength and value of the partnership.
