'No Ghana card, no pay': CAGD to port public sector workers’ details to NIA
Organised Labour has agreed for the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) to port the names of all public sector workers on the existing database onto the National Identification Authority (NIA) platform.
This was in response to CAGD directives that government workers who do not update their information with their Ghana Card by December 1, will not receive salaries.
According to Organised Labour, CAGD can, thereafter, inform the various institutions of any unregistered staff that may exist.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting with the Ministries of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance and Controller and Accountants General’s Department held in Accra.
The communiqué dated Tuesday, October 19, 2021, was signed by the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah for the government, Joshua A Ansah, Deputy Secretary-General for Trades Union Congress (TUC) for Organised Labour and witnessed by Kwasi Kwaning-Bosempem, the CAGD and Michael Akurugu Brigandi, National President of TUTAG.
The communiqué further demanded that all affected institutions should encourage staff to register with the NIA as quickly as possible if they have not already done so.
It said in order to facilitate the process of registration of public sector workers, the government should set up designated points for registration of the Ghana Card.
