Ofori-Atta presents 2020 budget today
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will present the 2020 budget statement and economic policy before Parliament today, Wednesday, 13 November 2019.
A deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare said the budget will focus on infrastructural development and industrialisation across the country.
Speaking to Class News ahead of the presentation, Abena Osei-Asare, who is also the MP for Atiwa East, stated that the government will not introduce new taxes as being speculated by the Minority and its communicators.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has accused the government of planning to massage figures to deceive Ghanaians into thinking that the economy is healthy.
“We know that the Finance Minister is preparing to come to Parliament with some … massaged numbers in order to justify that he is doing well,” he alleged.
He said the Akufo-Addo government “is quick to disrespect” known values and laws such as the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (PFMA) and the Fiscal Responsibility Act and, thus, asked Ghanaians to be vigilant and hold the government accountable.
Also, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has tasked the government to ensure it solves the high unemployment rate in the country and present a robust trade policy to support industrial growth.
