Osafo-Maafo runs to court for refuge as Domelevo chases him for $1m Kroll money
Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo has resorted to the court to fight the surcharge imposed on him by the Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo.
The A-G’s 2018 report said Mr Osafo-Maafo supervised the payment of $1 million to private firm Kroll & Associates, despite no work having been done, thus, the disallowance of the payment and surcharging of Mr Osafo-Maafo.
Mr Osafo-Maafo challenged the claims of the Auditor-General insisting work was done by Kroll to merit the payment but Mr Domelevo would not budge.
Mr Osafo-Maafo has, therefore, gone to court to fight his case.
“I have today, Wednesday, 11 December 2019, instructed my lawyers to commence legal processes to challenge a disallowance and surcharge imposed on me by the Auditor-General following his notice on 24 October 2019.
“The evidence available shows clearly that the Auditor-General erred in law and professional procedures in the exercise of his powers regarding his audit on payments to Kroll and Associates Limited,” the former Finance Minister said in a statement.
“The legal action has been initiated on behalf of myself and four other officials of the Ministry of Finance. I am optimistic that the courts will afford us the opportunity to prove the regularity of the said transaction and clear our names in the process”, he noted.
