UNDP reaffirms commitment to Ghana's Actuarial Science and Financial Resilience at industry conference underway in Accra
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s actuarial capacity and advancing inclusive insurance as key drivers of sustainable development.
The assurance was given by Amina Sammo, National Coordinator of the UNDP Insurance and Risk Finance Facility, during her address at the ASG Actuaries Connect Conference 2025 on Thursday.
Speaking to an audience that included the Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakaria, and the President of the Actuarial Society of Ghana, Ms. Sammo highlighted the successful collaboration between UNDP, the Actuarial Society of Ghana, and Milliman under the UNDP-ITFF Global Actuarial Initiative (GAIN).
A key outcome of this partnership has been the development of Ghana’s Assured Mortality Table, described as a “national milestone” that strengthens local capacity and supports evidence-based risk pricing and insurance inclusion.
“This national milestone is not only a technical achievement but also a testament to the power of partnerships in building local capacity and evidence-based solutions,” stated Ms. Sammo.
She further emphasised UNDP’s ongoing commitment to deepening collaboration with the ASG and industry partners to enhance actuarial science, improve data ecosystems, and promote inclusive insurance and risk finance frameworks in Ghana.
Mark Larbi Henaku, Executive Director, ASG, on his part, said this year's ASG Connect Conference 2025, among other equally important technical sessions, is the showcasing of the current state of Ghana Assured Life Mortality Table for the insurance industry, of which the UNDP has been a strategic partner throughout its development under the UNDP-Milliman Global Actuarial Initiative.
It will therefore be a pleasure to welcome the UNDP team as a key stakeholder of the GAIN Project and the mortality table intervention, he concluded.
