A women-led agro-processing centre under the Northern Savannah Women Enterprise, managed by the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), is seeking to partner with the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative.

Located in Bolgatanga, the centre currently employs over 600 women across 15 communities and has the potential to generate more than GH¢9 million in monthly profit through the processing and sale of locally made products such as groundnut paste, soya oil, and kebabs.

With state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet both local and international production standards, the centre is targeting supply opportunities with major government programmes, including the School Feeding Programme, Senior High Schools, and public healthcare facilities.

During a courtesy call on the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), NORPRA’s Executive Director, Bismark Adongo Ayorogo, appealed for institutional support to secure certification from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Ghana Standards Authority.

He explained that although the women produce high-quality food items, the absence of official certification limits their access to larger markets.

“The Assembly can play a vital role by assisting with certification processes and expanding its facilities for more efficient machine operations.

Their business model fits seamlessly into the 24-hour production policy being pursued by the government,” Ayorogo noted.

He lauded the women's innovation, strong business acumen, and detailed financial projections, stating that with the right support, their operations could bring transformative economic benefits to their communities.

Barikisu Akurugu, speaking on behalf of the women’s group, echoed the call for support, stressing that expanding their capacity would not only benefit their families but also bolster the local economy and meet rising national demand for processed food.

In response, MCE Roland Ayoo commended both the women and NORPRA for their initiative and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting their inclusion in the 24-Hour Economy framework.

He further indicated that their request would be integrated into the Assembly’s medium-term development plan.
