1957 movie: Kyekyeku reflects on debut production, ‘very stressful’, unpaid PA work initiating him into film
According to Kyekyeku, “it was changes and growth” in experience that led him to venture into movie production.
Also, “in life you need to push hard and push harder, and seek constant progress,” he said.
Kyekyeku added that this new adventure in his career was him “walking the path God is leading us on”.
After making a mark on “YouTube, TV, phones – it is time to go into the cinemas,” he declared.
He said from the very beginning, movie production was part of his dream, and indicated his eager readiness to explore all relevant areas of the industry.
“I love the job,” he proudly said. “And I’m utterly dedicated to it with all that I am and have.”
On the sacrifices he made to enter the industry, he said “it was necessary to begin as a PA (production assistant)” helping with general tasks on sets.
“Being a PA is how you introduce yourself to more and more people including the audience because a time will surely come when they’ll need someone for a scene and you may be the best fit,” he explained.
“When you use such an opportunity well, people will begin requesting for you.”
He noted the PA work “was very stressful” and without pay, and “a test of true dedication”.
He said this to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, Saturday, April 20, 2024.
The movie 1957 is the actor and comic star’s debut as a producer. The film explores tribal conflict and harmony, and gets its title from the year Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule.
1957 stars the likes of Aka Ebenezer, alias Dr Likee, and Kalsoume Sinare. It originally premiered in Kumasi on independence day March 6, 2024, with serial showings on the day due to the mammoth crowd that attended.
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, Accra’s premiere will take place at the National Theatre at 6PM.
