Ghanaian actress Gloria Osei Sarfo has said although she had been rehearsing her acceptance speech for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) for a while in front of the mirror, she least expected to be nominated for the 2020 awards.

She was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Perfect Picture – 10 Years Later’.

The actress, who was speaking on the Class Drive (CD) on Class91.3FM on Friday, 21 February 2020, told show host Prince Benjamin: “I did my best, I just tried to impress the viewer with my role”.

“After the nomination, I had to go back to the cinemas and watch the movie again. I said, ‘OK, maybe, during the premiere, I was, maybe, over-excited’. You know, the fans were there, so, probably, I didn’t pay attention. So, let me just go there quietly and have a look at it again because I never expected this, honestly”.

“Though I’ve always been eyeing the AMVCs for years, I’ve always been rehearsing my speeches in front of my mirror and my family but then it’s God; everything is God. I was just there one day and the guy who played my son, Raphael Boakye, called me and said: ‘Mum, we made it!’ And I said: ‘What was it?’ He said: ‘You’ve been nominated for Best Supporting Actress, AMVCA’. I shook the whole building with my scream.”

To her, the nomination is a win for Ghana.

“I think this is actually for Ghana; this is an African award scheme; look at the other nominations, it’s 99 per cent Nigerian,” Gloria Sarfo noted.
