Blakk Rasta returns VGMA, RTP, Bass, DJ awards due to 'indecent' criterion, 'new consciousness'
Reggae/Dancehall musician and media personality Blakk Rasta has, in a blistering letter, written to Charter House Ghana informing them that he is returning all awards given to him under their scheme.
Charter House Ghana is the organiser of Ghana's premier and flagship music awards show, Ghana Music Awards (GMAs), currently sponsored by telecommunications giant Vodafone Ghana and thus called the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
Blakk Rasta addressed his letter to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charter House saying: "I write to return the award plaques given to me over the years during your awards."
"Sir, I'm of a new consciousness that these awards which were and are still based on paying to vote to win awards were/are a way of selling the awards to the highest bidder," he explained his intentions.
"I'm not proud of this," he stressed and added: "I wish to return these plaques."
Blakk Rasta again requested of Charter House and the Ghana Music Awards team to totally "have my name expunged from your records."
The 48-year-old controversial media personality further charged that the awards scheme's means of arriving at worthy gong-recepients "falls short of merit and decency."
Until the aforementioned is addressed and reviewed to reflect "true merit," he asked the scheme to "desist from nominating me in the future."
