The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, has highlighted the "December in GH" initiative as one of President Akufo-Addo's most significant legacies.

The programme, which has transformed Ghana into a prime destination for holidaymakers and tourists during the festive season, is credited with boosting the country's tourism industry and enhancing its global reputation.

In a recent interview on Wednesday, August 28, Mr Agyeman emphasised that the "December in GH" initiative has played a pivotal role in positioning Ghana as a cultural and entertainment hub in Africa.

He noted that the programme, which includes a series of events, festivals, and concerts, has not only attracted thousands of tourists from across the world but has also provided a platform for showcasing Ghana's rich cultural heritage.

Mr Agyeman lauded the initiative for its impact on the local economy, stating that it has created numerous jobs and opportunities for Ghanaians, particularly in the hospitality and creative arts sectors.

He pointed out that businesses across the country, especially in Accra, have benefited from the influx of tourists, leading to increased revenue and investment in the tourism industry.

The GTA CEO also praised President Akufo-Addo's vision and support in making "December in GH" a reality, noting that the program has solidified Ghana's status as a top destination for diasporans looking to reconnect with their roots.

He added that the initiative has strengthened the country's ties with the global African diaspora, further promoting Ghana's tourism potential.

Mr Agyeman expressed confidence that the legacy of "December in GH" will continue to thrive beyond President Akufo-Addo's tenure, serving as a cornerstone of Ghana's tourism strategy and contributing to the nation's economic growth for years to come.

"I think that the December in Gh is one of the big initiatives that the government has undertaken to boost the tourism industry. Even before the December in Gh calendar is launched, some hotels have already booked 80% of their rooms."

"Persons from all across the globe are preparing to come to Ghana for the event. So I think the December in Gh is of the biggest legacies President Akufo-Addo will be leaving behind," he said.
