Disability not a curse; retract, apologise for your mockery of Stonebwoy – GSPD to Shatta Wale

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has bemoaned a video circulating on social media in which dancehall artiste Shatta Wale mocks Stonebwoy with his disability.
In the video, Shatta Wale said among many negative statements, that Stonebwoy was a bad person, hence God made him disabled.
This sparked comments on social media.
Reacting to this in a statement issued on Monday, 15 April 2024, the GSPD condemned Shatta Wale for his words.
“The primitive statement should not have come from a high-profile personality like Shata Wale. This is an act of irresponsibility and this should be condemned by all,” the GSPD stated.
The society reminded Shatta Wale that a section of his own “fans who are making him who he is, are persons with disability”.
“Did he think how they would feel? Or Shatta Wale thinks he has made [it] so he does not care?” the society quizzed in its statement.
According to the society, it takes “exception to this statement and asks Shatta Wale to retract the statement, remove such video from social media and apologise to all persons with disability and Ghanaians”.
The society reiterated that being a person with a disability does “not mean you are cursed, or God is punishing you”.
It stressed that “using a person’s disability to mock him or her or making derogatory remarks about a person’s disability is a punishable offence by law,” as stated in the Disability Act 715.
It advised the public to embrace “persons with disability and be empathetic towards them”.
In January 2003, Stonebwoy was involved in an accident that deformed his right leg.
He had a corrective surgery in May 2016, after years of limping.
According to Stonebwoy, former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan funded the surgery in Germany.
