Esther Smith: Singer tells her story including 'joining the Tanoso Methodist Choir at 14'
UK-based Ghanaian singer Esther Smith has noted she wants her fans to "know me, beyond the lyrics".
Thus, the Gospel star has made some revelations about her music journey.
She spoke via Facebook, Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
The singer said she was born in Suame, Kumasi, Ashanti Region, in the 1970s. It was here, at 14, that she joined the Tanoso Methodist Choir. This period, she noted, "would spark a passion that would stay with me forever".

That notwithstanding, she would not take up music as her main focus immediately.
Upon completing secondary school, the Nyame Banbo singer "pursued my interests in technology and languages at the Garden City Computer Training and Typing School, and the School of Languages" in her "beloved" city of birth.

"But music kept calling!" she continued. To answer, she joined "a singing group formed by Kapital Radio, a private radio station in Kumasi".

Ms Smith kept her disclosure brief, promising more as her fans get ready for her two-city Esther Smith Live Concert; Kumasi and Accra. Themed 'The Vision is Jesus', the concert marks the return of the multiple award-winning singer's return to Ghana after 10 years abroad.

Streaming on all digital platforms, Nyame Banbo sees Esther Smith collaborating with her friend, singer-songwriter and record producer Morris Babyface. For their performance over a Reggae beat, they both celebrate God's protection as they declare his power to neutralise all threats sent their way, physical or spiritual.
