Gospel can't be monetised but Christian music can, says Prophet Kaywa
Prophet and legendary musician David 'Kaywa' Kojo Kyei has made a distinction between Gospel music and Christian music.
He spoke to Taller Dee on No.1 105.3 FM's No.1 Gospel Showbiz radio programme.
"What makes the music good is the content," the Highly Spiritual record company founder and CEO began.
"In music, the lyrics plays a major role. So, when I say Gospel music, all the lyrics have to suggest the Gospel of Christ: Christ died, Christ resurrected and the effect of that which he has done. That's the Gospel," the Destiny Nation church leader highlighted.
He said, by this definition, "There are many songs framed as Gospel which are actually not."
He said the Gospel could not be monetised, explaining that "in the Bible, Jesus traveled for miles and shared his Gospel without taking money from anybody".
"The Gospel shouldn't be monetised in anyway," Kaywa cautioned. "There should be no transactional conversations when it comes to Gospel."
However, "I believe you can monetise music when it comes to Christian music." He did not say much to explain, noting: "It feel this discussion is a larger conversation to have."
Earlier he had mentioned "Christian artists," a category of musicians who, he said, could "monetise," and also do Gospel music if they liked.
Additionall, Kaywa said there was nothing wrong with helping causes within the Christian faith, too, citing "maybe a pastor has written a book and is selling it".
