I’m venturing into highlife now – Patapaa
‘One Corner’ crooner, Patapaa has revealed that contrary to public belief that he was talentless and made senseless songs, he is a highlife artiste.
He added that this was the time to prove all those who referred to his songs as senseless wrong because he was going to pursue highlife music now.
Speaking to Nana Romeo Welewele on Accra100.5FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo show on 4 June 2020, Patapaa said that his breakthrough came from his ‘One Corner’ song because God works in mysterious ways.
“What is coming is even bigger because I am originally a highlife artiste but God blessed me through ‘One Corner’,” he said.
He also said that unlike what pertains today where the highlife genre has been infiltrated by love songs, he believed that the indigenous genre should speak to real life issues.
Also known as Patapeezy, he said: “I was accused of not singing sensible songs so now I’m opening it up… Highlife is not all about love. Speak about issues that are bound to happen.”
Patapaa, who is currently promoting his latest single, ‘Adam Konkonsani’ featuring Akwaboah, said that he idolises highlife legends Nana Ampadu and Akwaboah Snr, hence his love for highlife music.
He said his new song talks about how backbiting and hate speeches from others could mar relationships and cause one to lose their job, business, and other resources in life.
Patapaa became a household name in the Ghanaian music industry in 2017 when his ‘One Corner’ song went viral. Ever since, he has released a good number of songs and staged numerous shows both home and abroad.
