In music ‘play your part to the best of your ability’ knowing ‘it’s not all about you’: David Kwamena Bolton

Singer-songwriter, record producer and music executive David Nana Kwamena Bolton has noted the lessons he gathered playing in an orchestra as he honed his music talent at a young age.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Prime Media Entertainment (PME), he spoke with Larry Bozzlz on CTV's Time with the Stars, Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
After chatting about David's revoluntionary software used by the British medical industry and the subsequent IT school he established in Ghana in the 90s, Larry asked when and how David got into music.
“From the beginning,” he answered. “Even before I came to Ghana, I was into music. I actually got into music when I was 7-years-old. That’s when I started playing the violin – I was learning the violin, then I joined an orchestra.”
“I think I was about 9-years-old when I joined the orchestra – a junior orchestra,” he noted. “And then I graduated to a senior orchestra.”
He noted “how big orchestras are” and said “over there” in the United Kingdom (UK) where he grew up – the son of a Scottish man and Ghanaian mother, “they take it very seriously."
"So you learn all the classical music: the Beethovens, the Bachs..." he went on, "and you have to learn how to play your part and play your part in a bigger team.”
David Nana Kwamena Bolton said playing in an orchestra “taught me that it’s not all about you."
"You understand where you are within the scheme of things," he added, "and play your part to the best of your ability," thus, "you make everything so beautiful from there.”
David Bolton was the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the legendary D'kaybee Studio which was essential to the Hiplife revolution of the 90s and 2000s. He and his team produced Obrafour's second album Asem Sebe and also worked with other Hiplife icons such as Tic Tac (Tic) and VIP (VVIP).
D'kaybee Studios was setup in London in 1998 and moved operation to Ghana in 2000.
Currently, remodelled, D'kaybee Studios is Prime Media Entertainment (PME) headquartered at McCarthy Hill, Accra.
