Kinaata reports numbers boosted across socials after Otumfuo's 'endorsement'
Singer-songwriter Martin Kofi King Arthur, alias Kofi Kinaata, has reported his numbers across his social media channels have received a mighty boost of numbers and engagement since the Asantehene mentioned him, his song and complemented him for his lyrical wisdom.
Kinaata made this known via Facebook.
By mentioning my name, every number has increased [rocket and fire emojis]," Kinaata wrote.
"Streams, views and social media engagement [crown emoji]," he added to explain.
He praised Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei II, "Ɔpemsoɔ Medaase [thanks emoji]. Piaaawww [praise emojs]"
He added a hashtag for with the name of his debut 7-track tape Kofi OO Kofi released on May 10, 2024.
When the Warlord of Asante spoke during the Ghana Bar Association's 2024 General Conference in Kumasi, Ashanti region, Monday, September 9, he asked his audience to recognise the uniqueness of Ghana among the nations of the world; a West African country greatly admired for its natural and human resources; its sense of democracy and social cohesion; its peace and heritage, etc. The Asante King acknowledged though Ghana had several things to improve on, it was still the envy of many.
To underline his point, Otumfuo brought up Kinaata's 2015 song Susuka, taking particular interest in the opening line: "Obi nya w'aye".
"I can think of many countries that look up to Ghana and wish they were just like us. Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a piece like Kofi Kinaata's 'Obi nya w'aye' which means 'Someone wishes they were like you," the Otumfuo said, drawing a round of applause from his audience.
Immensely flattered by the Otumfuo's gesture, Kofi Kinaata took to social media to celebrate. Ever the humourous person, he frantically searched for a kente cloth to wear in his hotel room and finding none, he settled for the duvet. He wrapped it about him, according to tradition, did a proud gait and asked, Tuesday, September 10, "Has the Otumfuo mentioned your name before? Do you know the Otumfuo?"
In another video on Wednesday, he was seen on the balcony of his hotel room, listening to the part of Otumfuo's speech which broached his song. Again, he acted in an entertaining fashion, spreading his arms to exaggerate his size to a point he could not go through the door, to demonstrate his excitement.
"It is finished," he exclaimed several times.
