Lali x Lola outline active groups challenging TGMAs Board to reinstate Group of the Year category

Twin sisters and music duo Lali x Lola have made a case for the reinstatement of the Group of the Year category for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
In a letter to the Board of the TGMAs, dated February 3, 2025, Lali x Lola bemoaned "the continued absence of the Best Performing Group Category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards".
The category has been omitted since 2022, with the Charterhouse Head of Communications, Robert Klah, saying "it was no longer competitive" and "we are not saying it had been scrapped off, but we are resting it until such a time we feel we have enough numbers in the space to compete for it".
Pushing back, Lali x Lola noted in 2025, the music scene had enough active and competitive groups to vie for the honour.
"Over the past few years, there has been a significant resurgence of talented and impactful music groups in Ghana. These groups are making tremendous contributions to the growth of the industry, with chart-topping hits, compelling live performances, and a renewed sense of collaboration. Notable groups such as DopeNation, Keche, Team Eternity, Bhad Mayors, and ourselves – Lali x Lola – are just a few examples of the vibrant collective energy driving the industry forward," the singers said.
"We believe that reinstating the Best Performing Group Category would serve as a powerful recognition of this creative momentum and further encourage unity, collaboration, and innovation among artists. This category has historically celebrated the strength of teamwork and creativity, and its absence leaves a critical gap in recognising the full scope of Ghanaian music excellence."

Dear Esteemed Board Members,
Subject: Advocacy for the Reinstatement of the Best Performing Group Category 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA)
We hope this letter finds you well.
As artists deeply invested in Ghana’s music scene, we are writing to express a collective concern regarding the continued absence of the Best Performing Group Category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Over the past few years, there has been a significant resurgence of talented and impactful music groups in Ghana. We believe that reinstating the Best Performing Group Category would serve as a powerful recognition of this creative momentum and further encourage unity, collaboration, and innovation among artists. This category has historically celebrated the strength of teamwork and creativity, and its absence leaves a critical gap in recognising the full scope of Ghanaian music excellence.
We humbly urge the Telecel Ghana Music Awards Board to consider bringing back this essential category for the 2025 edition and beyond. We are confident that doing so will inspire greater creativity and engagement within the industry while strengthening the rich cultural legacy of Ghanaian music.
Thank you for your time, dedication, and continued commitment to uplifting Ghanaian music.
Warm regards,
Lali x Lola
