Morris Babyface an 'indispensable pioneer with an extraordinary legacy': Sony Achiba overflows with praise for music virtuoso
Singer Sony Achiba has expressed deep appreciation for record producer and singer Morris Babyface, recognising him as an essential kingmaker in Ghana's past and unfolding music history.
He was full of praise for Babyface, noting his influence was deep and transcended the boundaries of generation, gender, and genre.
The Hiplife star cited music veterans in both the Gospel and Hiplife communities who shaped Ghana's music heritage and pop culture.
"He helped us all," he declared. "Me, Kontihene, Kwaadee, Esther Smith, Noble Nketia..."
"Without a doubt, he brought us all into the limelight," the Nipa Boniayefour hitmaker emphasised.
Hailing Morris Babyface as a critical "pioneer," in Ghana's music industry, Achiba noted Babyface had "done extraordinary work," and built a towering, unerasable legacy.
Achiba spoke on Kumasi-based Pure FM.
Whether Highlife, Hiplife, Rap, or Gospel, Morris Babyface or Morris D'Voice Lovit masterminded and helped define the music that soundtracked the lives of millions, peaking in the 2000s.
Apart from the acts Sony Achiba namedropped, Morris famously worked with music culture icons like Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Akyeame, Obour, Tic Tac, Akatakyie, Barimah Sydney, and Nana Agyemang, among many others.
For Gospel, he created hits with legends like Tagoe Sisters, Moses OK, Ohemaa Mercy, and Diana Asamoah, among others - his enduring collaborative work with Esther Smith being the most prominent.
Morris Babyface simultaneously shaped secular and sacred music, as an indispensable sound architect, sometimes appearing alongside the primary performers on the hit records he produced. Currently, as an evangelist, the virtuoso only creates and sings Gospel, his most recent works being with UK-based Ghanaian Gospel icon Esther Smith.
