Pardon Akuapem Poloo – Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Efya, A Plus, other celebs beg court
Several Ghanaian celebrities are clamouring for clemency for actress and socialite Akuapem Poloo.
The actress, known in real life as Rosemond Brown, was convicted by the Accra Circuit Court for the publication of a nude picture with her son.
She posted the picture with her son on Instagram in June last year on the occasion of his seventh birthday.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, 14 April 2021, the actress pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against her.
The court, presided over by Christiana Cann, deferred sentencing and convicted the ‘Sexy Poloo’ singer on her own plea.
For claiming to be pregnant, the court has to be sure of her state as a woman before her sentence is served, as required by law.
The court, therefore, ordered a pregnancy test to be conducted to ascertain her claim.
Akuapem Poloo was, therefore, remanded into police custody and would reappear in court on Friday, 16 April 2021 with the results of the pregnancy test for sentencing.
In reaction to the happenings in court, some showbiz personalities and public figures have appealed to the court to reconsider sentencing the mother-of-one.
This has led to the trending hashtag #FreeAkuapemPoloo on social media.
Celebrities and popular personalities like Sarkodie, Efya, Stonebwoy, D Black, Jessica Opare-Saforo, Bridget Otoo, comedian DKB and outspoken social commentator A Plus, have joined a section of Ghanaians to plead with the court to temper justice with mercy in Akuapem Poloo’s case ahead of the sentencing tomorrow.
“I think it’s a little harsh to separate a child from the mum just because of pictures taken … would want to plead with the law to pardon our sister #FreeAkuapemPoloo,” Sarkodie tweeted.
“Don’t know how to feel about this Akuapem Poloo conviction. Feels like killing a fly with a sledgehammer,” Jessica Opare-Saforo tweeted.
“This whole issue with Akuapem Poloo is beyond me .. we have abused girls, no beds at maternity wards !!! Accidents here n there … Economy Gbas .. And This Is What is being highlighted.. for what purpose..?? I can’t understand it ! Chale .. Wabl3,” Efya also wrote on Twitter.
“NAM1 is still free and doing Instagram post. A man described by the state as a scammer. A man whose actions has killed people, rendered thousands jobless and some are at the point of suicide! He’s free cos he’s connected! #AkuapemPoloo,” Bridget Otoo added.
Stonebwoy also tweeted: “I beg you people in the name of God.. I believe it will do poloo more harm than Good.. Her son and mother will even suffer More if she’s Sent to Jail... #ForgiveAkuapemPoloo #FreeAkuapemPoloo”.
