Reggae/Dancehall superstar Stonebwoy has accused the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of corruption regarding how the final squad for the World Cup was arrived at.

He argues some deserving players are missing from the 26-player squad assembled for the Mundial happening in Qatar. 

The singer insinuated that some players are only part of the official list because of a bribery system overseen by the authorities. He called it 'Pay to Play'.  

Putting up the official info-graphics for the Black Stars full squad, the Ghanaian artiste nicknamed 1Gad, tweeted: “There are players who are supposed to be in the squad who are not here because of #PayToPlay.” 

“@ghanafaofficial [Ghana Football Association], why?” he quizzed hinting at frustration. 

Today, Monday, November 14, 2022, the Black Stars manager, Otto Addo, unveiled his final squad of 26 players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which starts on Sunday, 20 November.

He had initially provided a 55-member provisional team on 4 November, expected to be pruned to 26.

The Black Stars first went to the World Cup in 2006, Germany. In 2010, they were in South Africa.

Simultaneously the best and worst memory in a World Cup campaign for the Black Stars and the Ghanaian nation, the team lost out on a historical semi-finals opportunity due to a heartbreaking penalty miss by Asamoah Gyan. It would have been the first time an African nation would be playing in the semi-finals. 

In the 2014 tournament in Brazil, the Black Stars were knocked out after the group stage.

Stonebwoy's reaction to the final 26-man representation for Ghana for Qatar 2022 is just one of the citizenry's show of disapproval in the light of coach Otto Addo's announcement six days to the start of the tournament which ends on Sunday, 18 December. 

The artiste's latest offerings are 'Therapy' and 'Gidigba'.
