Ghanaian music star Worlasi

Worlasi is set to release his much-anticipated new single, Safia, on Friday, August 9, 2024.

A special live debut performance, however, will be witnessed at his art exhibition, EKA: A’line to your Lineage, Saturday, August 17, at Barn Door Beergarden, Osu-Nyaniba, Accra.

Known for his extraordinary versatility, the rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, composer and visual artist's therapeutic Safia promises to captivate audiences as it uniquely blends African rhythms and reflective lyrics.

Furthermore, Safia is but the aroma of a project called Voices in My Head.

Originating from Ghana’s Volta region, Worlasi has made a name for himself as a music alchemist who is unpredictable but never sacrifices his traditional and Pan-African essence as he dabbles in Soul, R&B, Hiphop, Highlife, Alte, etc, giving his age and race-diverse listeners a rich and unforgettable experience.

Worlasi, hailed as Waska!, employs various languages and dialects to get his varied but often conscious messages across: in English, Ewe, Fante, Ga, and Pidgin, demonstrating his appreciation for diverse linguistic and cultural heritages.

The album Safia heralds, however, is centred on celebrating his native Ewe language.

"For the longest time, I have strived to incorporate more of my language, Ewe, into my music," Worlasi explained. "This year, I committed to creating an album that is 80% Ewe, and I am proud to have embarked on this journey. It has made me realise that I don't know much, but at the same time, I know enough to learn more. The more I understand how much I don't know, the more I want to learn."

With the Lisa the Composer-produced Safia, the humanitarian and founder of the Giving Shade NGO admonishes listeners to embrace their language and culture, using the charity begins at home principle.

"My goal is to encourage all Ewe people across the world to embrace their language and explore it because the more we do, the more beauty we find in it," he said.

Safia, which means 'key' in Ewe, is an effort to unpack and inspire self-discovery and the realisation that the answers one seeks are often well within reach. Thus, on the 3:30 minute song, Worlasi sings and raps, narrating the story of an individual who finds a door with their name on it, however, struggles to open it. Exhausting every apparent means at their disposal, the door remains shut until they discover the key to the door was in their pocket all along, symbolising the often-overlooked resources and solutions within them.

Worlasi underlined: "There is a saying that when one door closes, another opens. The first and most important door we often overlook is the entry to this world through a mother's womb. The opportunity of having life is our first door to success. Some doors seem closed, but we’ve always had the key to those doors. We just need to find different ways and angles to make it work because, most times, we already have everything we need to get the work done."

Worlasi Langani, simply known as Worlasi, is respected for numerous hits including Mawena, Nukata, Booze High, Animate, Woezor, etc. He has worked with stars like M.anifest, Sarkodie, DJ Juls, and Sena Dagadu, among others.

If the ambivert is not playing dates in Africa, he is usually in Europe.
