Sincerely Accra: Year of Return, like initiatives have enhanced knowledge sharing between local creatives, international brands

Joseph Nti, the host and co-founder of the popular Sincerely Accra podcast, has observed that even though Ghana has gained a reputation for being a recreational hub due to the Year of Return and Beyond the Return initiatives, players in the creative industry have benefited immensely and not just the hospitality industry.
Nti spoke with Nana Kwesi Asare on The Big Show on Class 91.3 FM, Saturday, August 12, 2023.
“I do think, given the opportunity to come to Ghana, people are realising there are different versions of Ghanaians that you meet and I think one of the groups of people who stand to benefit a lot from people coming down here is the creative industry,” he said.
Citing that music megastar Kendrick Lamar and others have come to Ghana for the sake of creative work, he noted some knowledge sharing has taken place.
“So, essentially, photographers, stylists, hairstylists, makeup artists – all these people are now able to work with big media houses and they see how things are done on an international level,” he said.
Also, Nti said, the Year of Return, Beyond the Return and December in GH initiatives helps tourists experience first-hand that what they heard about Ghana and the African continent was “just one side” of the story and “there is more to us than what they’ve been told”.
Sincerely Accra is six years old and the brainchild of Joseph Nti and Kwame Asante Ofori.
